The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) has chosen Meijer--a Midwestern, family-owned, privately-held superstore--as the Black Pearl Award recipient for 2016. The award will be presented to Meijer at the IAFP Annual Meeting this summer in St. Louis, MO.

The Black Pearl Award is given out each year to a single company that goes above and beyond in the area of advancing food safety and quality through consumer programs, employee relations, educational activities, adherence to standards, and support of the goals and objectives of IAFP.

Meijer operates 223 supercenters, grocery stores and pharmacies throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Previous winners of IAFP’s Black Pearl Award include Tyson Foods, Sodexo, Inc., and Publix.
