U.S. federal, state, and local public health officials are currently investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Enteriditis infections linked to bagged peaches. As of August 19th, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 68 illnesses (14 hospitalizations) in 9 states.

Many of those affected by the outbreak reported having purchased bagged peaches from ALDI stores in several states. Wawona brand bagged peaches have been recalled in relation to the outbreak. Specifically, the peaches linked to the outbreak are the 2-pound, clear plastic bags sold from June 1, 2020, until now.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s traceback investigation is ongoing to determine the full scope of product distribution and source of contamination. The investigation will also include looking into identifying other retailers that might have sold contaminated peaches.
