The University of California at Davis (UC Davis) has officially entered an agreement with the City of Zhuhai, China to launch a World Food Center that will focus on food safety. UC Davis says that the center will be the hub for food production research both in China and worldwide.

“China has placed a very high priority on improving the safety of its food and restoring confidence in consumers here and around the world,” says Roger Beachy, executive director of the UC Davis World Food Center.

Over the next few years, the World Food Center’s success will be measured by one metric: the decreased number of food safety related incidents.

The construction of a brand new facility is currently underway in Zhuhai’s Guangdong province--a newly developed area known for technology, economic strength and its close proximity to Hong Kong. The City of Zhuhai has already invested $2.5 million into the project.
