Swift Beef Company in Hyrum, UT (a subsidiary of JBS USA) has recalled over 99,000 pounds (49 tons) of raw ground beef products due to possible Escherichia coli O157:H7 contamination, says the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS).

The recalled products--produced in bulk on October 24, 2018--include pallets and plastic wrapped chubs of “blue ribbon beef.” The beef shipments shipped to retail distributors for further processing, as well as to foodservice distributors for institutional use in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

The problem was discovered on November 15, 2018, when USDA FSIS visited Swift Beef Company in response to a USDA FSIS ground beef sample that was collected at a further processing establishment and was confirmed positive for E. coli O157:H7. USDA FSIS confirmed that Swift Beef Company was the sole source supplier for the ground beef products. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
