Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, issued a statement earlier this week in response to the election results of the GMO labeling ballot initiatives in Colorado and Oregon.

In short, Bailey says that she is “pleased” that the voters of both states rejected the proposed mandatory GMO labeling measures. She believes that the state based GMO labeling would be misleading to consumers and that a better alternative is the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act introduced by two representatives of Kansas and North Carolina. This measure would “eliminate consumer uncertainty created by a state-by-state patchwork of labeling laws, advance food safety, inform consumers and provide consistency in labeling.”
