FSIS Updates New Technology Table, Validated Pathogen Test Kit List

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today issued an updated listing of Foodborne Pathogen Test Kits Validated by Independent Organizations. This complements the agency's recent update of its New Technology Table; both documents are available on the FSIS website.

The Foodborne Pathogen Test Kits Validated by Independent Organizations list includes all test kits that have been validated for detection of relevant foodborne pathogens (i.e., Salmonella, Campylobacter, E. coli O157:H7, and Listeria spp. including L. monocytogenes). This list is intended to be informational and is not an endorsement or approval of any particular method, regardless of its inclusion in the list, according to FSIS.

The agency updated its New Technology Table on Jan. 17. The table provides succinct descriptions of the new technologies received and reviewed by FSIS for which there has been "no objection" for their use in establishments.

For more information on new technologies designed to improve the safety of meat, poultry, and egg products, see FSIS's New Technologies Web page.
